I'm working on an aggro Druid.
Its a lot like Romeoxero Druid - based on the power of Thornlasher.
But lets start with an old Charmyna video and basically the same idea:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/46533013
Charmyna said in the chat afterwards that he thought he lost because he lost to many actions early on.
He might be right, but i do think he butchered the very first round.
Jacksmack (Necro) placed a Battle Forge in C4 and then moved to B4.
Charmyna then double moved from A1 to C1 and placed the tree in C1.
I think its a lot better to run to B2.
Of course you run right into cursing range, but now your able to put a Thornlasher in the FC/B3. Then if Jacksmack want to use Meditation Amulet or summon a creature, you would be able to hit him with the Thornlasher in turn 3.
I played like that vs Alexanders Priestess in Viking-Con 2018 in a very long match where we both ran out of stream and none of us could kill the other mage.
I did make some changes after that and i do look forward to get to test those soon :)
Will get back.

Post Viking-CON part 2 - Johktari vs Necromancer
We had the pleasure of seeing Alex from Germany at this CON.
Me and Keejchen went to the German National Mage Wars Championship earlier this year.
There we meet Alex and several other great guys. Luckily Alex decided to come and visit.
We faced of with me playing the Johktari Beastmaster vs his Necromancer.
He had a very solid book, based on zombies and outplayed me totally.
Mostly Wall placement as a response to my Pillar was key to his victory.
I was a bad matchup for me as i can´t use my Wounded Prey ability. Besides my healing regeneration is likely to be stopped with Poisoned Blood/Deathlock.
I do think i could have played better. Summoned more creatures before i engaged, and trying to use my better mobility and run around using Kajarah more.
Im pretty happy with my opening for Johktari:
Round 1:
9 19
Wychwood Farie 4 15
Battle Forge 8 7
9 +1 16 +1
Enchanters Ring 2 15
Enchantment 0 15
Lair 15 0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CREW:
Redclaw, Alpha Male
Timber Wolf x 4
Izimbilla
Darkfenne Asp
I do like it as the Lair lets me get creatures out without spending my full action.
I could save 4 spellbookpoints - drop the Lair and then just hardcast creatures.
That would require 8 rounds of staying in the corner and "do nothing"
Note to self:
Add 1-2 Thornlasher and put it in a central zone. Thornlasher are amazing and with Pillar and Lesser Teleport they just pwn!
Ill get back to this when i´ve played it some more. Which is going to be a while as i´m working on Mace.

Post-Con thoughts (Viking Con 2018)
Its been a great con :)
I didn't do well, mainly because i "lost" my match vs Alexander.
Because we did have lots of time and not that many participants (10) for the main tournament we went for knockout matches without time limit.
However after my RFR Druid faced off vs Alexander´s Priestess after 6 hours i had to realize that none of us could kill the other.
Alexander had Artemis a Guardian Angel and two zones with consecrated ground - i could not enter and stay in the zone with my Druid. I could never get pass the Guardian Angel.
I had a Vinesnapper in a corner zone and two Thornlashers with a Bloodspine wall between them and Meredias Blessing. He couldn't go near those.
I had a few more spells back than him but none that could do the job...
In the end Alexander lost the finals narrowling, with my Druid spellbook vs Keejchen playing my Adramalech Warlock book.
Again this match showed me how important Mage Wands are.
In this particular book i basically don´t have equipment.
Still just after the con i only put in more movement spells - like going from 3 lesser Teleports to 6.
Im going to try and play this book 10 times and then get back :)

Using a Spawnpoint and or a Familiar is often a very good choice in Mage Wars. It gives you extra actions and usually helps a lot.
For Beastmaster the most obvious choice is the Lair.
15 Mana is a bit expensive - and a bit unfortunate as it leaves you with 4 left.
The most aggressive opening is to move 2 to the Near Center (NC) and then place the Lair in the Far Center (FC). If you go with a Falcon Swarm, you would be able to start hitting your opponent in his starting square from turn 3.
Summon at least one Falcon every turn and try to put on the pressure!
In this example vs the Necromancer it looks like running forward did not do much compared to the Necromancer who did get to use both his action and increase his channeling further.
Straywood Beastmaster with a lot of tiny creatures often has a small window of opportunity to optain the goal in Mage Wars: Killing the other Mage.
"Tiny creatures don´t work in Mage Wars"
There is a lot of truth in this, the tiny creatures are quite squishy - die fast and often don´t do a lot.
If your opponent has armor and even Veterans Belt the Birds won´t do much - unless you help them a lot.

Mage Wars - Straywood Beastmaster
Straywood Beastmaster (SBM) is on of the 4 mages from the Mage Wars core set by Arcane Wonders which came out in 2012.
Quick Summoning:
Normally a Mage has to spend a full round to summon a creature, but SBM can move/attack or use the Quick cast (QC) instead.
PET: Makes tiny small creatures a lot better. Even now in 2018 im still not certain how to use this ability. Do you want to use it as much as possible? Use it on Level 1 creatures and put those in the front line, when they die summon a new pet. Or but it on a larger creature - something as simple as a Timer Wolf becomes amazingly good with the Pet ability, but even level 3+ creatures are used as pets.
Battle Skill: +1 Melee
Beastmaster should work very well fighting in the front line with his creatures. High health, +1 Melee and his pet get an extra dice if in the same zone. His ability to Quick summon means he doesnt need a spawnpoint as bad as everybody else, but its not a bad idea to go with Lair anyway.
A few points: Some of the beat MW players in the world have said "i found that small creatures, doesn't work well in MW" and "Swarm isn't viable"
In 2014 Alexander West took everybody with surprise winning Gen-Con with his Straywood Aviary.

I will be back with more on the Straywood Aviary and the SBM in general.
